There are no more Bank Holidays until Christmas. It's getting darker earlier. The wind and rain are back to turn umbrellas inside out. Winter is on its way.
If all this leaves you longing for warm sunshine and a break from it all, you need to start thinking about an accessible winter sun holiday. There is still time to book a wheelchair-friendly holiday in the sun and, despite what many think, you don't have to go on a long haul flight to enjoy one. You can even save £100 if you book before the 30th of November, so there are plenty of reasons to treat yourself.
We've rounded up some of the best short-haul winter sun destinations for people with limited mobility to give you some inspiration for swapping cold and grey for warm and sunny this winter.
Average Winter Temperatures: 18-20
Average Flight Duration from the UK: 3.5-4 hours
Despite what its mountainous persona may lead you to believe, Madeira is a surprisingly wheelchair-friendly destination. Many of the newer buildings have been designed with disabled people in mind and access is given by the island's cable car and ramps in areas like the capital, Funchal. There are also braille and SPS services available for visitors who would benefit from these facilities.
If you're looking for something different from your winter sun holiday then it's worth noting that, at Enable Holidays, we can offer adapted tours including one of the incredible Laurissilva Forest. There, accessible trail leads to views of some of the island's most beautiful and photogenic landscapes.

The Canary Islands - Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Tenerife - are fantastic for accessible holidays year-round.
Most of the resorts in the Canary Islands are disabled-friendly with flat promenades, accessible entrances to shops, bars and restaurants, drop curbs and wheelchair-accessible public transport throughout.
A number of beaches on the Canary Islands are accessible to wheelchair-users. For instance, in the Costa Tequise area of Lanzarote, three beaches have been awarded 'Beaches for All' Status and the beaches at neighbouring resorts like Matagorda have wooden walkways and aqua wheelchairs. Even in locations like Gran Canaria, where beach access is somewhat limited, there are still options including a fully accessible beach with disabled toilets and changing rooms at Maspalomas.

For years, Cyprus has been a beloved holiday destination and its welcoming attitude to visitors with limited mobility is just one of many reasons for this.
Cyprus is very hot during the summer months, meaning that it stays warm and sunny throughout the rest of the year, too. A winter sun holiday gives you the chance to explore the historical sites and pictureseque landscapes of the island comfortably and we can offer a variety of accessible excursions which are pre-bookable in resort (ask our representative for details). Cyprus is also home to accessible beaches - some in Paphos and Ayia Napa even have innovative Seatrac systems to give wheelchair-users autonomous access to the sea - and fantastic restauants specialising in Mediterranean cuisine.
