Here at Enable Holidays, we understand how important it is to get every detail of your accessible holiday and we don’t believe limited mobility should limit your choice. It’s why we make sure that you have everything you need in place for your holiday, from the adapted airport transfer to wheelchair friendly facilities in-resort and all of these facilities are included within the price of your holiday.
When searching for a holiday on our website or in our brochure, you may have noticed icons identifying the adapted facilities that are provided in each hotel but you may not be entirely sure what they mean. On this page, you’ll find the information you need to choose the right accommodation for your holiday.

To ensure that your journey between the destination airport and your holiday resort suits the requirements of your party, we have carefully selected taxi companies and suppliers of adapted vehicles. The adapted transfers to and from the accommodation can be arranged in the majority of destinations and we'll make you aware if this isn't available when enquiring about your holiday.
Whether you are travelling alone, or with a number of people - we will always make sure that the transfers suit your requirements and this is included within the price of your holiday. Also in some accessible properties, there will be a WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle) for your party to use whilst on holiday.
(Shown above: Example of adapted transfers at the Aksos Suites in Crete, Greece)
Adapted vehicle hire is available in many of our resorts, making disabled parking a must. Like all disabled parking spaces, extra room is available for those hassle-free transfers and these spaces are likely to be located near the entrance of the accommodation.
(Shown above: Example of disabled parking at the Golden Taurus Aquapark Resort in Costa Brava, Spain)
Every holiday accommodation provided by Enable Holidays will have step-free access to the shower, in your guaranteed adapted room. Wheel-in shower floors are flush with the rest of the bathroom, meaning that there isn’t a raised lip or any obstruction that may make it difficult for a wheelchair user to enter. Some wheel-in showers may be a wet room or cubical style (like pictured below) - please let us know when enquiring if you would prefer one or the other.
(Shown above: Example of a wheel-in shower at the Eria Resort in Crete, Greece)
This adapted feature is a chair that you sit on in the shower, suitable for wheelchair users or those who find it difficult to stand for long periods. A shower chair can take on many forms, from a single chair to a wall-mounted apparatus or a shower bench, all of which can be requested when you enquire over the phone, allowing our accessible travel experts to direct you toward the properties that best suit you.
(Shown above: Example of a wall-mounted shower chair at the Maison des Landes in Jersey, Channel Islands)
To assist with manoeuvring in your accommodation, grab rails can be found in numerous places depending on where and when you need them, both in adapted hotel rooms and accessible properties. These areas include, but are not limited to, the bathroom, allowing you to transfer to and from your wheelchair, to the toilet and, in some properties, bathtub in a more manageable way.
Please let us know which side you transfer from your wheelchair and we can make sure that the accommodation is perfect for you.
(Shown above: Example of bathroom grab rails at the Hotel Atlantic in Prague, Czech Republic)
All of our properties will feature a wheel-in shower but also some provide baths with grab rails as well if you prefer the relaxation aspect of a bath over taking a shower.
(Shown above: Example of a bath with grab rails at the Cape Town Villa (SA1) in Cape Town, South Africa)
This adapted feature allows you to adjust both your upper and lower body positions in bed via remote control. Profile beds can also be arranged with the added feature of raising or lowering the bed, which makes it easier when transferring to and from a wheelchair.
Bed raisers and cot sides are available as well for both styles of bed, and there are some properties that have bed hoists available as well as ceiling hoists but the number of resorts that can offer this is varied, so be sure to mention it upon enquiry.
(Shown above: Example of an electric operated bed to hire at the Nautilus Lanzarote in Lanzarote, Canary Islands)
The addition of a ramp into the pool allows for comfortable, step-free access into the water and cool off on those hot summer days abroad. The ramps will differ from one property to the next, with some having handrails too - so please ask our team when enquiring if you require anything specific when booking your holiday.
(Shown above: Example of a ramp leading into the pool at the Cottage / Villa Near Vilamoura (PT2) in Algarve Villas, Portugal)
When it comes to people with mobility requirements accessing a swimming pool in a comfortable and dignified manner is not always an easy thing to achieve. However, pool hoists can be used to lower you into the pool and assist with exiting, often in the form of a seat, allowing for more accessible and attainable entry into the pool. Other examples of this adapted feature require the user to lie flat on a surface, similar to a hammock, which is then raised and lowered into the pool.
If you have a particular preference in mind, be sure to mention it when talking with our accessible travel experts over the phone or when using the live chat feature available on the website.

Roman-style steps provide a gradual step entry into a pool, we use the term Roman-style steps to differentiate them from the universal ladders found at public swimming pools. They also compare closely to the steps found in Roman bathhouses, allowing patrons to enter the water at their own pace and with ease.
(Shown above: Example of Roman-style steps into the pool at the Aqua Pedra dos Bicos in Albufeira, Portugal)
