The construction of Rhodes, capital of the Dodecanes, began in 407BC, and its rich, ancient history is evident at every turn.  The island buzzes with life thanks to various outdoor cafes and shops, and it is impossible to ignore such refined sights as the island’s highest mountain Mt. Ataviros, the medieval castle of Kritinia and the Palace of the Grand Master in the Old Town.

If relaxing on perfectly golden beaches is your idea of bliss there are plenty to encapsulate even the most discerning visitors.  The island offers a range of gorgeous places to improve your tan including the beaches of Afandou, Kallithea and Petaloudes.  Relaxation, emerald-blue waters and (for the more active) watersports are all prolifically available throughout Rhodes’ 50-mile length.

Rhodes Town is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe.  While some of Rhodes’ streets may be cobbled and rustic, there are accessible tours and scooter hire available for tourists wishing to ensure easy travel around this beautiful island.  As well as being historic and traditional in appearance, there are also areas of modernity that include designer shops, a casino, concerts and international restaurants.
