Corfu is one of the more rural Greek islands, making it perfect for rewarding sightseeing and soaking up the scenery.  The island’s unparalleled bays, gorgeous coves and varied beaches make for enticing draws, and the 120 miles of coastline backed by rows of typically lush Greek fauna make Corfu a picturesque retreat, peppered with attractive villages and resorts that nestle amongst olive groves and verdant cypress.

Despite its generally composed character, the island has a colourful and energetic nightlife.  Live bands and nightclubs can be found amongst the tavernas and bars, with tourist magnets such as Kavos providing a party-filled contrast to the more relaxed and subdued pleasures of the Old Town and Corfu Town.

There are plenty of great places to eat and indulge in Corfu, where the Mediterranean cuisine is often cooked to perfection.  The island’s fresh produce is plentiful, with tomatoes, herbs, olives, lemons and kumquats forming the sumptuous foundations of many an appetizing meal.

Visitors interested in the island’s historical significance will enjoy learning more about its many occupations throughout the years, as each has contributed to its contemporary culture.

Corfu’s climate varies within a fairly narrow range throughout the year, with averages of 25 degrees Celsius in July dropping to 10 in January and February.
