Northern Spain’s most exciting city, Bilbao, provides visitors with a wealth of possibilities, many of which are accessible to guests with reduced mobility and a range of chic restaurants and dramatic architectural statements surround the centre.
The Plaza Nueva, for instance, offers a great spot to watch the day go by, with numerous bars and restaurants that allow you to sample the local culture as well as keeping the atmosphere lively all day. Every Sunday, the square puts on a traditional flea market where ancient books, stamps, coins and flowers are sold, adding to the experiences that are available during your stay.
You can’t talk about Bilbao without mentioning the Guggenheim Museum, designed by architectural genius Frank Gehry that, depending on your angle, can resemble a boat, a chimney or a fish, and in a way transcends the art held within. The museum is completely accessible to visitors that require wheelchair access, except for its High Gallery.
The best times to enjoy the city is mid-April through June, September, and October as the temperature is ideal during these months.
