The Vietnam Tour extension begins here, with your arrival in Siem Reap, Cambodia. At the airport, meet your trusty tour guide and collect your temple pass before starting your journey to Angkor Thom city, the last capital of the Khmer empire, housing several fascinating monuments for you to discover.

You will enter through the south of the city, surrounded by 8-meter-high walls, and decorated with large sculptures of elephants. Once inside, you will explore the Bayon, a richly decorated 13th-century temple that stands at the centre of this once renowned capital, with the area’s most distinctive features being the multitude of smiley stone faces on the many towers that cluster around its central peak.

After this visit, in the late afternoon, you will head over to your hotel and spend the night in Siem Reap.

Enjoy some breakfast at the hotel before taking a drive through the rice paddy fields and local villages to visit Banteay Srei – a beautiful red sandstone temple in Siem Reap. Known as the citadel of the woman, a magnificent jewel of the 10th century, this temple is considered to be one of the most exquisite examples of Khmer architecture, still standing today.

After this morning visit, you can go back to the hotel and relax or venture into the city for a meal, where your guide will provide information on the different accessible restaurants that are available in the area.

In the afternoon, visit the early-Angkor era temples of the Roluos Group. Roluos was the first town created by the king of Cambodia, with the first edifice to be built being the temple of Preah Ko in 879 A.D. This temple consists of 6 brick towers, still partly covered by plaster, and was dedicated to King Indravarman I’s predecessor, Jayavarman II.

The second temple of the Roluos Group is the Bakong temple, built in 881 A.D. by the same king, standing as the largest temple in the city and represents Mount Meru – considered to be the centre of all things and the home of the gods.

Finally, the Lolei Temple was the third and last addition to the area, being built in 893 A.D. by the successor of Indravarman I, his son Yasovarman I. Once an island temple located in the now dry Indratataka Baray, scholars believe that the Lolei was placed on an island, in the middle of a body of water, to symbolically represent Mount Meru itself, in a different yet significant way to the Bakong.

After your day of exploration, return to the hotel for some much-needed R&R to recharge for the excursions that are still to come.

This morning visit Ta Prohm temple which was built during the reign of Jayavarman VII, a great king who reconquered the Khmer empire, well-known for its appearance in the Tomb Raider movie, with extensive tree grow on the rooftop. Needless to say, the war caused significant damage to the ancient capital of Angkor, leading the king to reforge it as a proper seat of power through the reconstruction of several temples, with Ta Prohm at the centre of his plan.

After this visit, you can go back to the hotel and relax or venture into the city for a meal, where your guide will provide information on the different accessible restaurants that are available in the area.

In the afternoon visit the famous Angkor Wat, a prime example of the classical style of Khmer architecture that is visually breathtaking, particularly during sunset. Inside, the walls are all covered with sculptures depicting Hinduism mythology, wars of King Suryavarman II and of course the Sacred Dancers of Angkor.

After this visit, head back to your hotel and spend the night in Siem Reap.

Following breakfast, you will enjoy a tour of the city visiting the old market, admiring the beautiful riverside, experiencing the workshops of Artisans d’Angkor and will have the chance to encounter the relaxed atmosphere of Siem Reap. Adapted transfers will then be arranged to the airport for your departure flight, with your guide sticking around to assist you at the check-in desk.
